Mahi Mahi, otherwise known as Dorado or Dolphinfish are common around the island’s shores.
Usually found a couple of miles offshore, they do occasionally come right up close to the barrier reef.
Great fun on light tackle, they always leap across the surface when hooked up, their extraordinary colours are a sight to see.
Often caught when out trolling lures on heavy tackle for marlin, they are delicious to eat but can be quite a handful on deck if brought in green.
They range in size from 5kg up to 25kg but an average fish would be around 10kg (25Lbs).
Bite Me carries a spray bottle containing Fiji overproof Bounty rum. A shot in the gills and they calm down pretty fast.
